Music Arranging FAQS: What is the Cost of an Arrangement? Each arrangement is unique, and price depends on the following factors: Length, Full Score, Winds Only, Percussion Only, and whether or not a score is provided or music has to be transcribed from a CD. A price quote can be provided free of charge after the Music Arrangement Request Form is filled out online. Is it a big hassle to get a custom arrangement for my band? No, I can help answer your questions for you. The most difficult part will be obtaining copyright permission if the work in not public domain. You will find that by getting music written specifically for your band, that your band will sound better and you can create a show the way you want it. What musical compositions and arrangements fall under Copyright Law? Any piece of material written in the past eighty-five years will more than likely fall under Copyright Law; this applies even if it does not have the printed Copyright symbol. Works in which the Copyright term has expired, or the few isolated works with special exemption, are considered to be Public Domain and can be arranged without permission. Do Not Assume Anything! Always check on the legal Copyright status of the music “prior” to having it arranged. To learn more on how to secure permission to arrange Copyrighted materials, read the Copyright Information page.
How will the music be delivered? Once the charts are complete, they will be saved in PDF and MP3 format and will be sent via e-mail or sent U.S. Mail saved on CD or Hard Copy.
What is the turn-around time for chart completion? A guaranteed completion date will accompany each and every contract, and is based on a first-come first-served process; so the earlier a contract is signed, the earlier the chart is delivered.
Does ALL custom music require Permission to Arrange? No. There are many works available in the “Public Domain” which make great arrangements for marching shows. Works listed in the public domain do not require PTA.
How do I obtain PTA (Permission to arrange)? MENC's "Copyright Center" Is there someone that I could pay to handle this process for our group? Yes, CopyCat Music Licensing LLC provides this service for a fee.
